About Joining the American Learning Association


 


How much does it cost to join the ALA?
An organization can join for free at the associate level  . Associate Membership is aimed at organizations wishing to associate with the ALA , whilst not fully engaging with all aspects of the Association's operational procedures. Associate Membership entitles you to register one individual in your organization  to receive benefits of membership.

 

For organizations wishing to engage fully with the association's aims and objectives. Full membership entitles you to register up to three individuals in your organization to receive benefits of membership, and costs additional fees .

 

We also have a category reserved for individuals wishing to enhance their professional status by committing to the ALA's Code of Conduct and to receive benefits of Individual membership, for $ 100 .

 

What are the benefits of membership?
Membership demonstrates your commitment to innovation, excellence and best practice in learning, enhancing your credibility as an organization . You will also have access to informed objective advice and information on all aspects of learning and learning innovation, as well as opportunities to network with, and gain the collective expertise, of the ALA global community.

 

Who should join the ALA?
The American Learning Association is the cross sector independent forum for advancing techniques and technologies in learning. It has a high profile membership, of almost 200 organizations comprising of more than 600 key learning and development professionals, drawn from the following sectors:

  • Companies committed to learning techniques and technologies for the development of their staff.

  • Education Sector - HE colleges, universities and schools.

  • Public organizations with a commitment to the use of learning techniques and technologies to enhance the performance of their employees.

  • Learning Providers - including publishers of materials; online, multimedia, text, video and e-learning, and other deliverers of training.

  • Professional training bodies.

  • Public libraries with learning centers committed to lifelong learning.

  • Organizations with learning center.

  • Individual practitioners and consultants.

  • Business support and research organizations.

I understand that we will have to commit to the principles of the ALA Code of Conduct  to become a member of the ALA- what does this mean?
The Code of Conduct indicates the standards of professionalism expected of a member of the American  Learning Association. It sets out, in general terms, the standards and duties, which it is reasonable to expect a member to adopt.

 

The adoption of this Code is an integral part of membership and provides the basis through which the Association promotes the status of its members and their commitment to quality and good practice.

 

It is also part of a process by which the ALA seeks to encourage its members to adopt a more formal approach to quality assurance and continuous improvement with the overall aim that members seek onsite verification of their learning services and the achievement of the Association's Quality Mark.

 

How long will it take to process my application for membership?
The membership application approval process usually takes between 4 working weeks.

 

Does being a member of the ALA mean I can use the ALA logo?
The ALA encourages all its members to promote their membership of the Association. Organizational members do this by using the membership logo as a sign of commitment to quality and good practice and to the principles of the Code of Conduct.
